A Tidy Up in Busy Times

Well, lets see this blog has just got a little thinner again! I am having a tidy up of things online and trying to ensure a little more organisation is applied to different areas. I think it maybe more for my benefit as I like having this all neatly stacked and organised, but also for ease of use during Uni. As for the first time there is a greater emphasis on the digital side on things on my current degree, not something I have come across before in this scale when studying in Brighton. There is a small form of irony in that as the south appears to be more focused on web services and accessibility but not in the education, up here there is very little information to be found on the net. Such as the bus timetable which is apparently spread through word of mouth as there isn't even a paper one available! Yet the Uni up here really are living up to their name of being a Digital Arts School.

Anyhow I like to do things like this anyway, not only shake things up, but to also play about with web site type stuff. I have been doing so since 1996, but I have never truly delved deep into it all until recently. (The small website I used to have may not count as it was very badly put together on the back end and was simple looking at best on the front end.)

So as I already have some web space that I have been paying for, for a while now, I decided to put it to good use. (As Dreamstone Dreamer, my old site, is taking longer to put back together than I would like, mainly due to my own fussiness over the build and look. Basically I don't have the skills to pull odd the functionality and the look of it currently so I am going to learn them and then implement them on the site.) I have now purchased my own domain name and from now on will be using that for University and career related stuff. (At least that is the hope.) For now it is a slightly separate place for me to use for University purposes such as the development diary's required for each project. Which is where several posts have already been moved to from this blog, which was a small mission to say the least as I am moving things from Blogger to WordPress, which I know can be done via Export and Importing, but then I had many images being hosted on Picasa included in posts and I needed them transferred over. Then there is the case of the videos and flash files hosted in places like YouTube and GoogleSites. All in all things were rather scattered, and while I feel that is fine for a personal blog I would prefer things to be in one place for the Uni stuff.

This has however not quite come to fruition as I still have the videos on YouTube and the flash on GoogleSites partly due to size limitations and partly due to formatting problems. I still have a lot to learn in terms of CSS and HTML in getting things to look as I designed them to look. (Which is why for now I am still using a template on WordPress!)

Anyway for Uni related things please pop over to Batch of Bluebells for my personal blog stay here on Developing Dreams. Everything is still a little in the building stage so there maybe a few bugs that need working out, but at least I have done this now rather than later, say half way through the second year!

It has been a busy few weeks for me though as even though we have has two weeks off from Uni (reading week/semester break/marking period) it has been full of things to do and people to see. I also spent a good three days solid finding my way around WordPress. I do wonder if being proficient at both Blogger and WordPress is going to work in my favour later on in life, I sure hope so at times....but then it would be better to be able to do all of this from scratch, but then that would make me a web designer rather than a game designer. :) Anyway this was all a week ago and we have been back to class now and have been given a rather large amount of work to do, which I am glad about as it gives me something to do and focus on, I just have to learn to fully focus on it all!

It was a nice distraction though having a good friend from Brighton visit during this week though, and it was even nicer that he was happy to just chill and play games and generally discover how comfy out couches are. :) We did also break out the Playstation Move as well and took it in turns to try and beat the Gold Cup in the Gladiator Duel in Sports Champions, we all had aching arms afterwards, it's a surprisingly good workout!

However this weekend I now need to buckle down and get some work done, however Saturday was spent finishing off the WordPress move and generally catching up on some rest and housework, and today I have just been informed that my Dad is popping down with the dogs. (Much to my cats annoyance I'm sure!) I mean all I have to do is build a train and landscape in Maya ready to animate on Monday and also get a pitch presentation done for the concept documents project, also for Monday. Well an all nighter I maybe pulling tonight, but at least that means I might be a little slower in my talking during the presentation! :)
